How to produce activated carbon step by step?
Activated carbon is a material with a highly porous structure and strong adsorption capacity. It is widely used in water treatment, air purification, chemical purification and other fields. Its production process includes several key steps, among which the method of using an activated carbon furnace is the most common and efficient method.
1. Raw material selection and pretreatment
The raw materials for the production of activated carbon usually include wood, coconut shells, bamboo, coal and other materials. Before officially putting into production, the raw materials need to be crushed, screened, dried and other treatments to prepare for the subsequent activation process.
2. Carbonization treatment
In the production of activated carbon, carbonization is a key step. The raw materials need to be carbonized at high temperature in a carbonization furnace, usually controlled between 300-600℃, so that the volatiles in the raw materials escape and only the carbon skeleton is left.
3. Activation treatment
The carbon needs to be further activated to form a rich pore structure. The activation method is to use an activated carbon furnace to treat the carbon, and water vapor is needed in the process to create the pore structure of the activated carbon. The temperature control and airflow regulation of the activated carbon furnace at this stage are crucial to the quality of the final product.
4. Cooling and collection
The activated carbon is extremely hot after activation and needs to be cooled quickly. Common cooling methods include water cooling and air cooling to ensure that the activated carbon is stable and maintains its adsorption properties.
The cooled activated carbon is collected by a conveyor belt or a sealed conveying system and screened and classified.
